Campus Security

2:05 PM
by OWL ORDER

It's no laughing matter when it comes to campus security.

All day round you see guards patrolling the school grounds. Dozens of CCTVs are installed throughout the premises. The perimeter is surrounded by 2-meter high fences. Guardhouses can be found at both entrances to the school.

It certainly feels as if the security could qualify for an airport or country border.

Several months ago, when I first came to UNMC, I went around the school shooting photos and was quite amused when the in-campus hostel reminded me horribly of a prison.

I surely wouldn't want to stay in prison. Especially after what people say, "school is a prison everybody must experience". I have to go to school, but sleeping in prison AFTER school is surely avoidable.

I mean WAS avoidable.

My off-campus house was already armed with a guardhouse. The guardhouse was merely feet from my house and I'm sure the guards could even hear my irritating snores at night.

However, accidents still happen.

In late November 2008, a UNMC student was killed after a misunderstanding, just few minutes away from my place.

That, added with a series of burglaries and break-ins, simply meant tightening security in campus wasn't enough.

So one fine day, I came home from school to find the walls of my house taller by one whole foot. Not with anything, but with BARBED WIRES.

Wow. I can feel my wings dropping off already. All of sudden the trees beyond the fence look greener, the birds livelier, and the skies bluer.

OK maybe not the skies.

The ironic thing is that however tall our fences are, we don't have a gate. Any burglars reading this?

No, please don't get us gates! At least real prisoners get free food and no one'll bother them around if they skip classes or don't hand in assignments.

Frisbee Frenzy!

2:57 AM
Girls of the team

Chilling out at the sidelines

In the midst of the game

Practising throws and catches on the side

The game of ULTIMATE is played with a frisbee disc on a 64m X 24m playing field with endzones of 18m X 24m on both ends.
The objective of the game is to move towards the endzone by passing the disc as the player with possession of the disc is not able to move.

The game is called Ultimate and not frisbee because "Frisbee" is actually a trademarked product name by the producers of such a disc by the name of Wham-O
The official disc that we use in Ultimate is actually the Discraft Ultra-star, and normally we refer to the frisbee we use as DISC

The game is not like any other sport because it emphasizes the spirit of sportsmanship which we call it "Spirit of the Game"
Even at the highest level of competitive play, players are expected to "uphold the Spirit of the Game, and this responsibility should remain paramount". And they do.
There won't be any referees to make calls on the game, as oppositions are expected to settle whatever disputes they have during the game on the field

We are holding pick-up games (games where random people come to play together) on Mondays and Wednesday from 5pm - sundown from now till the end of the semester [Don't be surprise to see us playing during exam period ;)]
Anybody who is interested in the game, do come at the above mentioned time and don't be shy to look for the club's executives to bring into the game

Jin Yu's Surprise 22nd

11:13 PM
posted by:cwken

Celebrated Jin Yu the Goldfish's brithday last Thursday night. Pei Yi and Pei Wern's the one who organised it I think. We were all in uni a that time so Pei Yi asked to meet up at what we called "longkang"(it is beside a huge longkang) mamak at 1am to give him a surprise mini party. Sadly, a few of my friends and I arrived late and missed any opening ceremony T.T Sorry, Jin Yu!

Anyway, after we chit-chat a lil bit there, we decided to head to our uni's amphitheatre to "torture" him XD Guess what Pei Yi and Pei Wern had in mind?

WAX HIS LEGS!!! HAHAHAHA

The plan was not to wax his entire leg, but to wax partial of his legs so that he has no choice but to wax both his legs entirely later XD

Selecting a good spot to place the waxing tape

and both of his shin!

In the end, Pei Wern pulled 1 tape out by force and sent Jin Yu screaming. Too bad I didn't manage to get that hilarious shot =.= We then left the other 2 tapes for himself to pull.

The Goldfish in pain lol

Nevertheless everyone had fun haha

Some left moments after that. Some of us actually hung out until 6am =.=" I slept at 6.30am and had to wake up 4 hrs later for my FYP experiment in the Mechanical Lab. Thankfully I had a very good sleep the night before though.

I hope there are more of such activities, without the workload of course. You can't really enjoy such fun when there are so many things to worry about. My life as a student is coming to an end at the pace of a lightning. Less than two months only T.T

Oh, I almost update the picture of the week section. And the featured picture of the week is:

All Hail The New Kings ( and a Queen ) of Nottingham!

9:57 PM
The Results Are Out!
HAVE YOU CHECKED YOUR OWA1 EMAIL TODAY?

As of the 1st April 2009, the results for six positions of the Student Association Officers were announced via the university's email.

For those of you who do not know who the newly appointed officers are,we have posted it below for you.

( Some of us are just too lazy too open up OWA1, LOL )

First of all, the blogspot team would like to CONGRATULATE the recently-crowned SA officers 09/10.

Next, we'd like to wish ALL THE BEST and GOOD LUCK to all the election candidates who did not became an officer. May you shine in anything that you do.

Last but not least, a short and simple message to our new leaders : FULFILL YOUR DUTIES WITH PERSEVERANCE AND NEVER GIVE UP!

WAIT!
The story's not finished yet.

Our awesome team of reporters had managed to get a scoop on 2 of our new SA officers, and they are : CHILLIE & MICHELLE!

Both of them were interviewed on outside SA building. Several simple questions were asked to both of them, mainly about their respond to the election results and a brief introduction about what their job is all about.

MOREETSI KEDISENG a.k.a CHILLIE

Us : Hello. We are the UNMC blog reporters. And you are?

Chillie (C): Chillie.

Us : So what's your role in the Student Association?

C : I'm the Sports Officer.

Us : Can you explain briefly what your role actually, as a Sports Officer?

C : My role as a Sports Officer is to run the sports in the school, to come up with programs for the students and management.

Us : So can you tell, what was your feelings and emotions when you knew you were the newly appointed Sports Officer?

C : If you were there at where I was, you could see how excited I was. In fact, I did jumped up to celebrate it. I was so excited, and it was a great moment at that time. I felt like people do have faith in me. I'm privileged. I'm proud to be one of them.

Us : Congratulations man.*shook hands*

C: Thank you very much.

Us : For the next question, why do you take job as the Sports officer? Why not the others?

C : In my campaign, I said that I represent sport. I'm a true sportsman. Sports is my life.

Us : Kay man, for the last question, what do you want to say to all your fellow voters?

C : I would like thank them all, both my voters and non voters. I would serve them to my best potential, and I will not disappoint them them.

Us : So that's all for this session Chillie, thank you a lot for your time.

C : Okay.

Chillie shaking hands with our reporter.

SHEREEN MICHELLE

Us : Michelle, we wanna ask you 4 questions.

Michelle (M) : Okay.

Us : What were your feelings, when you knew you are the new Diversity officer?

M : It is an honor. As you guys know, it's a new post, so there's some hesitation as well. I actually don't know what I was supposed to do. They didn't know as well, like, specifically. But it is sort of the vice president role, like, did you guys came to the International Cultural Night?

Us : Yeah.

M : Yeah, so i'll be handling things like that and make sure the students have equal rights.

Us : I see.

M : So it's a big responsibility, and I'm excited.

Us : So, it's that your role in your opinion?

M : No, no. It is my role.

Us : The next question is, why did you take the job as the Diversity Officer? Why not the others?

M : Well, first of all, the President, Secretary, and Activities officer is a sabbatical role. It needed a year off to take this post.

Us : That's kinda costly.

M : Yeah, and I wasn't willing to do that. Now it's being reopen because nobody was willing to do it, so all this posts are opened up. But I already set out that I'm gonna do this, so I'll stick with it. I'm not gonna change my mind.

Us : Congratulations to you again, Michelle.

M : Thank you so much.

Us : For the last question, what are your words and message to all your voters that voted for you during the election?

M : Thank you so much, and honestly, there were many contenders, there were 6 people running for the role. And yeah, like, everyone had a good friend base, and I really didn't think that I'd get the most vote. So, thank you so much.

Us : Thank you for time Michelle.

M : Kay.

Michelle shaking hands with our reporter.

For the remaining officers, we wish to apologize to you as we could not find/contact them for the interview. These lucky two were the only ones that we get get our hands on.

And for those who didn't open their OWA1 emails, there is another election coming up. It goes like this :

Dear Students,

Please be informed that due to vacancies in the three sabbatical positions, the SA has made an Executive Decision to re open these positions. As they are no longer sabbatical positions, the activities officer shall revert to its initial portfolio as societies and entertainments officer.

Nominations are now officially open for the following positions:

1.SA President

2.SA Secretary

3.SA Entertainments Officer

4.SA Societies officer

Nominations packs will be available on the 2nd of April onwards for collection from the Election Committee. Please be introduced to the new returning officer
YUSUF JAMAL TAJUDEEN. For more information regarding this matter please feel free to contact any of the SA Executives as well as the Election Committee members and the Returning officer who can be contacted at

khcy82yjt@nottingham.edu.my

We apologize for any confusion caused. Please be reminded Election packs will be up for collection April 2nd.

Thank You Very Much for your understanding and cooperation.

Meanwhile to all those who did not win, do note that there’s been a second door opened and never give up! And to all those who missed out in the previous election, here’s your chance. Working in the SA will definitely give you an experience like no other!

Best of luck to all!

"Heal the world, and make it a better place" - Michael Jackson

9:39 AM
Before reading, I'd like you guys to watch this video. It gives a hint about what I'm gonna say in the next few lines.

Yes people. Even though we're living in the modern age now, there are still wars and sufferings happening out there. Imagine the refugees in a war torn country, forced to fled from their hometown, scared about the thought that they could die any second, begging on the streets because food is scarce, little children having to grow up without their parents by their sides.

While in other part of the world, some eat luxuriously, while some died of hunger. While some is enjoying their freedom, some are rounded up in a refugees camp. While some sleeps comfortably on their beds, some sleeps on the rough and rocky dirt because they have nowhere else to go.

So do a good deed people, because one single deed could change the whole world.

Comic Relief Charity Drive
by the Ace Society

SA Building entrance, 31st March 2009 - We spotted a couple of clubs and societies promoting their booth just outside the SA building. The first one that we approached was a charity drive called " Comic Relief " by the Ace Society.

We wanted to ask about the drive, but no one was presence at that time. So, when our cameraman was about to take the booth's picture, one of persons in charge came by. Lucky for us. Wouldn't want to see a picture of an empty booth now, do we? That'll lower down the popularity.

Above : Rafeah Serbini
On the right : Waleed

Then we came across Waleed, a Mobility student who represents the Ace Society on the Comic Relief charity drive. Our reporter asked him several questions about the relief.

Us : So Waleed, what's this Comic Relief all about?

Waleed : Basically, it's doing crazy things for charity. We're doing all this crazy stuffs to gather enough money so that we could donate it to the nearby orphanage, which we had a visit there recently.

Us : Crazy, huh? What sort of crazy thing's you guys're gonna pull?

Waleed : For example, I'm gonna shave my head after this.

Us : What?! Really? That's cool man. I hope you'll look like Jason Statham(google him if you don't know who he is) after you've shaved your head.

Waleed : Yeah. All this for charity.

Us : Well good luck to you then. So any last words before you continue your charity?

Waleed : Um yeah. Please promote us to anybody you could. And plus, you stand to win RM30 if
you participate in our paper cup castle competition. Only RM1 per entry.

Us : I see. So Walid, thanks a lot for your time. Hope you'd make a lot in this drive.

Waleed : Thank you. Hey guys, don't forget to donate!

On the next day, 1st April 2009, Waleed REALLY DID shaved his head! Give the man a standing ovation!

Defending Human Rights Worldwide
by Amnesty International Malaysia ( AIM )

After we covered the Comic Relief charity drive, our cameraman suggested that we cover about the booth just right over. So we went there and interviewed the booth persons there about their motives.
Us : Hi there. Can we ask some questions about this Amnesty thingy that you're doing?

AmnestyOfficer(AO) : Of course. Feel free to ask any questions.

Us : First of all, what's Amnesty by the way?

AO : It's basically human rights. So what we are doing here is to promote the awareness of human rights to the students.

Us : I see. So are doing some sort of charity too?
AO : Yes. Alongside of educating the society about amnesty, we are also holding a charity for those who have their human rights abused, for example ; war-torn country children, sexually abused women and others.

Us : That is a very thoughtful thing to do. Ok, so thanks a lot for the information.
AO : No problem.

The AIM booth in front of the SA's entrance.

So this is all we have to share for now. Remember, make the world a better place for all of us. There are still those unlucky fews who need our support and love.

Til then, have a nice day.

Yours truly,
Irzazder.
